Subscriber, meet Cambium
We are transforming supply chains by upending the traditional lumber market.
We're on to something BIG
Founded in 2021, we've raised over $10MM to date and nearly $1MM in separate, non-dilutive grant funding. In that time, we've worked with some of the world's most venerable brands, been recognized as one of Fast Company's Most Innovative Companies of 2024, and we are negotiating advanced market commitments for massive material sales in 2024 and beyond.
Traece®, our software platform, is poised become the single source of truth for every single player in the lumber value chain, positioned to capture transaction fees, data, offer financial services, logistics planning, and more.
We are building the Super App for the $516B Green Building industry.

Carbon Smart Wood™
Carbon Smart Wood™
The first ask-for-it-by-name brand in lumber
There is no recognizable brand name in the $215b lumber industry...until now.
Carbon Smart Wood™ offers brand partners a pathway to meet their net-zero targets through truly regenerative procurement. Carbon Smart Wood™is sourced sustainably, repurposing urban and non-urban wood to minimize waste and carbon emissions. Integrated with Traece®, it surpasses other wood
materials in environmental impact as a carbon negative building material.
By owning the brand, we further defend our work from disintermediation. It also allows us to control prices and to leverage a flywheel effect by having our products marketed by our buyers.
Sales Facts & Figures
- In 2023, our gross margins were 46% | Modeling shows margins to settle around 35 - 40% at scale
- $1.4MM revenue 2023
Sales Projections
- Advanced Market Commitments for Lowe's and Inventwood represent demand of 1.8m board feet of Carbon Smart Wood™by the end of 2025. At approximately $2/board foot, this results in $3.6m in 2025 revenue, and these material commitments go through 2030.

Connecting the Dots
Cambium's Supply team is integral to building and supporting our national network of lumber processors, divided into:
- Primary Processors: Transform logs into usable materials like dimensional lumber. They are equipped with kilns for drying the wood.
- Secondary Processors: Convert dimensional materials into products such as millwork for flooring, paneling, or decking, including partners who specialize in thermally modified wood.
- Innovation and Experience: Our Baltimore-based shop has specialized in fallen lumber for over 20 years. They ensure every supplier meets high standards through rigorous vetting by our VP of Supply.
- Scalability and Efficiency: Using Traece®, Cambium aims to become the largest lumber producer without owning lumber. Traece® enables scaleable assessment of national material availability, state (dried, milled), and costs, enhancing our ability to quickly provide Sales with quotes and fulfillment options.
- Industry Leadership: We collaborate with top industry certification bodies and trade organizations to promote Carbon Smart Wood™, continuously enhancing Traece® to address industry-wide opportunities, particularly for large-scale producers.

Data, Transactions, and SaaS
Data
Data is our currency. The way lumber currently moves involves upward of a dozen different companies across the value chain, none of which are connected by a unified data layer across the various changes of custody that happen from the time a tree comes down to the time it is available as a product.
Traece® is positioned to become the indispensable platform that allows stakeholders across the lumber supply chain to easily track, transact, and scale their business to meet the growing demands of responsibly sourced timber and Carbon Smart Wood™.
Transactions
Each stage wood's lifecycle is handled by a separate party. As this material moves throughout the supply chain, it is sold, modified, sold again, modified again, many many times before it ever reaches its final destination. With Traece® as the comprehensive operating system connecting these stakeholders, we have the ability to capture margin via point of sale and transaction management at every step of the way.
Saas
SaaS has served as our initial entry point into the market, enabling us to quickly expand our user base. We are now advancing into larger markets, targeting mills that produce millions of board feet annually—a segment that is significantly underserved. With the demand for Carbon Smart Wood™ increasing rapidly, we are in a strong position to influence these larger producers to adopt Traece®, thereby enhancing their ability to sell more fiber.
Trusted Ecosystem & Data Clearinghouse
As we grow, we become to lumber and timber harvest what John Deere has become to agriculture: The largest clearinghouse of industry-specific, proprietary data sets that can be leveraged and monetized by Cambium for decades to come. By combining historical data with equipment sensors, GPS tracking, weather data, and species variance, Traece® is the ecosystem of choice for 3rd party developers. As the single source of truth across the value chain, Traece® becomes stickier over time, providing value to more and more stakeholders and increasing our take across various points of sale and as data brokers.
Field App
Mobile, just like our clients
In 2024, Cambium released the Traece® Field App for iOS and Android.
The Traece® Field App rapidly improves speed-to-input, increases data accuracy and cleanliness, and will soon feature offline functionality.
This is our beachhead into cutting edge AI technologies such as computer vision, NLP solutions, and more.

First-in-Space | Technical Partner for Google
Fully Integrated Circular Supply Chain Offering
Google engaged us to spearhead the creation of a fully circular supply chain that merges Cambium's salvage & production operations with Rheaply's material discovery platform. The result is a comprehensive system that tracks materials from recovery to reuse, equipped with Cambium's proprietary advanced tracking and reporting. This solution provides Google a streamlined avenue for achieving their large-scale material reuse goals.
Progress Update:
- Cambium’s Traece® Platform setup and configuration completed.
- Data integration between Traece® and Rheaply finalized.
- Pilot material reuse project at Hanger 3 initiated.
Next Steps:
- Cambium's on-site material classification at Hanger 3 in June ‘24.
- First batches of reused materials ready for Google in July ‘24.
Impact Powers Everything
Buildings and construction are responsible for over 37% of global CO₂ emissions. Completely using wood waste at scale could cut US greenhouse gas emissions by up to 251 million metric tons CO₂ equivalent every year – or about half of all emissions from cars annually.
As a net-negative material, Carbon Smart Wood™ provides an avenue to achieve dramatic emissions reductions within built environment supply chains. The chart to the the right provides a comparison of life cycle assessments (LCA) highlights the benefits of Carbon Smart hardwood lumber vs. competitor products.

Global impact potential
The United States consumes an average 60 billion board feet of sawn wood products annually. If 100% of this material was up-cycled Carbon Smart Wood™, the impact would be:
- >68 million trees left standing, resulting in roughly 12 million MT CO₂e of additional forest carbon storage
- 122 million MT CO₂e stored in durable lumber and diverted from disposal
- $2.6 billion reinvested annually in forest regeneration
If this model of effective capture and upcycling of the urban forest waste stream was scaled globally, as much as 1.5 gigatonnes of carbon dioxide emissions could be reduced annually. That’s equivalent to 4x all of the passenger vehicle emissions in the United States.
Traece® for Impact
Traece® provides real-time data for carbon sequestration, distance traveled for this material, and more.
